The beginning of a blog's transformation_March-April 2015

Good day,
With so much digital content out there, in the world today, a little ole' blogger like me, can wonder "Who even reads this stinky blog?"  "There are so many good websites out there, and so many good blogs... how could I ever compete?"  Well, those are valid questions I think.  Over the past month (March 2015), I have been thinking how I can change my blog, so that it's something worthwhile to visit, and read.
I guess that I've had a bit of a revelation, of sorts, for how I want to blog, as a teacher, starting now ... hence the title of this post "The beginning of a blog's transformation."  I know that not everyone has the time to sit and read long posts, so I guess, in an effort to keep it appealing and interesting, I need to keep things somewhat brief.
At the heart of this revelation, I think, for me, is an idea that I just have to be somewhat honest about what I think is the best course of action, for public education, in America.  In case you're a new visitor, I can share that I'm an ELL Teacher (aka ESL), and I've been in the classroom for 11 years now (dated April 2015).  I will continue to write, and just share ideas, thoughts and opinions.  Let me put up a picture of a me, "Grandma," and my boys... on a recent February vacation trip, as we coasted along, on an Airboat Ride, down in Florida.  We learned a lot about the natural habitat of the Florida Alligator, and other great creatures; I highly recommend it.  Thanks, and please follow!

I'm happy to say that this year was my best yet. Combined with having more time to plan and prep for great units and lessons (now being post-Master's time), and with all the new knowledge and skills I learned from my M.A.T., it was a great year! You know... having those 4 years of teaching experience before doing my M.A.T., also, I think, really helped me to grow as an educator. We did some really exciting units this year. For example, building on some lessons I found in some Adult-ESL texts, I created a 3-week unit titled "Helping Your Family to Buy a Home!" Yes - so, we made "dream homes" out of cardboard boxes and materials. Students learned "Mr. Chiocca's 11 Steps to Buying a Home," and they made YouTube videos and Audio Recordings for the Final Project. The kids learned about mortgages, down payments, PITI - Principal, Interest, Taxes and Insurance; and how to work with real estate agents and brokers. In addition, students learned ...

Doesn't a blog only make sense when others will read it?

Hi, Is anyone reading this...? Really...? (crickets...) You see... I don't mean to sound so lame, but I'm torn. I feel like I'm supposed to contribute to the educational blogosphere, and yet I have three followers. Please... cue giggle (Yes, I want you to smile and giggle). I had these ideal thoughts about what it may be like to blog and learn from others online, and yet - I feel quite unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Yes, there must be 2 billion blogs out there, and everyone is pretty busy with life, so should I continue to blog? Please - somebody leave a comment...! And say, Yes, Mr. Chiocca, please contribute. Education and the future of public education depends on people like you, who care and want our kids to learn as much as they can in each grade level. Thanks for reading! Mr. Chiocca

My first clubhouse room!

I'm officially a moderator on Clubhouse! Yay! Have you gotten on the app?  It's still new, and in development, so it's only available on Apple iPhones, and iPads, etc.  It's still "invite only" and they did this on purpose, but I don't think it was meant to be exclusive, like a private club, rather because they are still in the "Beta" phase of growing, and developing, and didn't want to have millions join too fast, and thus overload the system.  Once you're on it, they you realize the value of it.  It's cool how the conversations in these "rooms" are generally based around a specific niche idea/ industry/ topic/ question.  There are rooms with thousands of listeners, and then there are smaller rooms which allow you to make new friends, and to be "brought up onto the stage," to speak.  It's audio only, and only Twitter and Instagram are linked in your profile, so it seems pretty clean and neat.  I like how there...
