** (a heartfelt note to the late, great MLK Jr.) written 1/18/21 ~~ Dear Dr. King, You were taken from us too soon. It was murder. In talking to a friend, this weekend, about the meeting I had this past Friday, with my students in our BHS African American Student Association, I spoke of how much more progress could have been made if you and many other civil rights leaders weren't murdered. These are the facts, and Americans need to be honest, reflective and mindful of our history. Life for millions of Black and Brown people still isn't fair, right, or good. We still have systemic racism, and we still have racism, prejudice and bigotry in the minds of millions. These antiquated closed-minded old ways of thinking need to be released, and dumped in the dustbin of the past. I am willing to do my part to help teach fellow white people about how thoughts of prejudice can live on in the mind, subconsciously. It is important for more people to be intellectually honest about their own thinking so that we can collectively change and grow. This is imperative if we are to improve as a global community. We can improve our thinking, and we can improve our laws, and systems. It is possible. We thank you for your service, dedication, courage, love and wisdom. As you may know, Dr. King, from my prayers to you, that I am trying to continue your work, now, as I release my new book, this February 2021. Yes, and since I will need friends (new + old) to support me on this new and inspiring journey, I can share that I will work towards bringing about criminal justice reform. We have a serious problem in America, with our current state of mass incarceration. For anyone wanting to learn more, please watch the documentary #thirteenth #13th by #avaduvernay on #netflix ~~ Thank you Dr. King. I hope to make you proud. With love, Adam Chiocca [book tour post, day 18, 1/18/21] ~~
Hi, Is anyone reading this...? Really...? (crickets...) You see... I don't mean to sound so lame, but I'm torn. I feel like I'm supposed to contribute to the educational blogosphere, and yet I have three followers. Please... cue giggle (Yes, I want you to smile and giggle). I had these ideal thoughts about what it may be like to blog and learn from others online, and yet - I feel quite unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Yes, there must be 2 billion blogs out there, and everyone is pretty busy with life, so should I continue to blog? Please - somebody leave a comment...! And say, Yes, Mr. Chiocca, please contribute. Education and the future of public education depends on people like you, who care and want our kids to learn as much as they can in each grade level. Thanks for reading! Mr. Chiocca
