Kamala Harris! What a great day! I am beaming with joy. This is so great. Now, rather than just celebrate, I thought I could also share something I learned today, that I didn't realize was a thing. Well, it's a social media movement, a hashtag (or a few), and it's based around the fact that Kamala loves to wear her Chuck Taylors, popularized by Converse sneakers, back in the 80's (or earlier?). Yes, and I also didn't know that apparently she loves to wear pearls, and so today I enjoyed learning about this new hashtag movement, in which lots of amazing women are sporting pearls and Chuck Taylors! I've enjoyed all of these pictures, ladies. Also, for those who aren't following amazing Black and Brown women on social media, I can share that many have recently celebrated their college sorority's respective "Founder's Days." It seems like most of the women I follow on instagram are sisters of .. aka "sorors" of AKA (Alpha Kappa Alpha), and Kamala is also a sister in this sorority, AKA, thus you may notice lots of pictures with those light pink and green colors (the colors of AKA). I'll include one cool pic here, so that you can see Kamala's college sorority's colors (the pink & green). Very cool ... and here are some of the trending hashtags ... #pearlsforkamala #pearlsandchucksforkamala #blackgirlmagic #amazingblackwomen #aka1908 #firstbutnotlast #shedidthat #kamalaharrisday .. oh, and let me also give a shout-out to that amazing young poet laureate, featured at today's Presidential inauguration of #joebiden .. her name is #amandagorman .. excellent! Thx, Adam Chiocca [book tour post, day 20, 1/20/21] ~
I'm happy to say that this year was my best yet. Combined with having more time to plan and prep for great units and lessons (now being post-Master's time), and with all the new knowledge and skills I learned from my M.A.T., it was a great year! You know... having those 4 years of teaching experience before doing my M.A.T., also, I think, really helped me to grow as an educator. We did some really exciting units this year. For example, building on some lessons I found in some Adult-ESL texts, I created a 3-week unit titled "Helping Your Family to Buy a Home!" Yes - so, we made "dream homes" out of cardboard boxes and materials. Students learned "Mr. Chiocca's 11 Steps to Buying a Home," and they made YouTube videos and Audio Recordings for the Final Project. The kids learned about mortgages, down payments, PITI - Principal, Interest, Taxes and Insurance; and how to work with real estate agents and brokers. In addition, students learned ...
