Maya Angelou! She changed my life with her books.

Maya Angelou!  Have you read some of her books?  I've read 5 of her books, and they're all so great!  If you haven't, then I recommend you start with "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings."  It is a powerful biography/ memoir.  It brought me to tears.  You won't be disappointed.  Her writing, especially in her unique and astute use of word choice is refreshing, enticing, entertaining and revealing.  After you read "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings," I would then recommend "Singin' and Swingin' and Gettin' Merry Like Christmas," which covers some of her public life and showbiz years; from the time of her performing at the Purple Onion, to her world tour with "Porgy and Bess," and beyond.  It's also a glimpse into her celebrity friend connections, so you get a new sense of some amazing people, like James Baldwin, who she often referred to as Jimmy.  Much love and praise today to one of the most important guiding lights in my life:  Maya Angelou.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Ms. Angelou ~~ Adam Chiocca ~~ [book tour post, day 15, 1/15/21] ~~

I'm happy to say that this year was my best yet. Combined with having more time to plan and prep for great units and lessons (now being post-Master's time), and with all the new knowledge and skills I learned from my M.A.T., it was a great year! You know... having those 4 years of teaching experience before doing my M.A.T., also, I think, really helped me to grow as an educator. We did some really exciting units this year. For example, building on some lessons I found in some Adult-ESL texts, I created a 3-week unit titled "Helping Your Family to Buy a Home!" Yes - so, we made "dream homes" out of cardboard boxes and materials. Students learned "Mr. Chiocca's 11 Steps to Buying a Home," and they made YouTube videos and Audio Recordings for the Final Project. The kids learned about mortgages, down payments, PITI - Principal, Interest, Taxes and Insurance; and how to work with real estate agents and brokers. In addition, students learned ...

Doesn't a blog only make sense when others will read it?

Hi, Is anyone reading this...? Really...? (crickets...) You see... I don't mean to sound so lame, but I'm torn. I feel like I'm supposed to contribute to the educational blogosphere, and yet I have three followers. Please... cue giggle (Yes, I want you to smile and giggle). I had these ideal thoughts about what it may be like to blog and learn from others online, and yet - I feel quite unimportant in the grand scheme of things. Yes, there must be 2 billion blogs out there, and everyone is pretty busy with life, so should I continue to blog? Please - somebody leave a comment...! And say, Yes, Mr. Chiocca, please contribute. Education and the future of public education depends on people like you, who care and want our kids to learn as much as they can in each grade level. Thanks for reading! Mr. Chiocca

My first clubhouse room!

I'm officially a moderator on Clubhouse! Yay! Have you gotten on the app?  It's still new, and in development, so it's only available on Apple iPhones, and iPads, etc.  It's still "invite only" and they did this on purpose, but I don't think it was meant to be exclusive, like a private club, rather because they are still in the "Beta" phase of growing, and developing, and didn't want to have millions join too fast, and thus overload the system.  Once you're on it, they you realize the value of it.  It's cool how the conversations in these "rooms" are generally based around a specific niche idea/ industry/ topic/ question.  There are rooms with thousands of listeners, and then there are smaller rooms which allow you to make new friends, and to be "brought up onto the stage," to speak.  It's audio only, and only Twitter and Instagram are linked in your profile, so it seems pretty clean and neat.  I like how there...
