Clubhouse! Wow. I just started it yesterday, and I can already see the value. It's not for everybody, but I can see why millions are already obsessed with it. I think it's going to be very popular, at least for a few years for a few reasons. (1) The fact that it's audio-only makes it simple, and easy-to-use. (2). Then, there's total freedom to enter any "room" you want, and thus you can listen in on these very interesting, specific, niche/ unique conversations. (3) With moderators leading the "panel discussions," it remains well-organized, clear, helpful, and professional. (4) It allows you to follow either specific interests, or groups, or people, and so once you choose your interests, you're automatically shown ongoing "rooms" that appeal to those areas of interest you selected. (5) There's no limit on the character length of your profile bio, so you can get very creative with your bio (what others would see). (6) My new friend, Erik, started moderating one room, and then got 400 new instagram followers in one day! (7) There's no way to dm people on clubhouse, so it forces you to look in their bio, where you can easily see their Twitter or Instagram handles. (8) If you want to speak, there's freedom to do that, by tapping on the hand raise icon. (9) Then, if you gotta go, there's a nice "leave quietly" button, so that it's like a no-guilt way to leave the group/ the room. It's very cool! Oh, and hey former students of mine... I'll be running small-group video calls this weekend, on Friday night, then Saturday, 1/30 at 11am, and Sunday, 1/31 at 12 noon to tell all my favorite former students about the exciting news I've got... in launching the #chioccanetwork ... dm me if you'd like to join us. Thx, ~~Mr. Chiocca~~ [book tour post, day 27, 1/27/21]
I'm happy to say that this year was my best yet. Combined with having more time to plan and prep for great units and lessons (now being post-Master's time), and with all the new knowledge and skills I learned from my M.A.T., it was a great year! You know... having those 4 years of teaching experience before doing my M.A.T., also, I think, really helped me to grow as an educator. We did some really exciting units this year. For example, building on some lessons I found in some Adult-ESL texts, I created a 3-week unit titled "Helping Your Family to Buy a Home!" Yes - so, we made "dream homes" out of cardboard boxes and materials. Students learned "Mr. Chiocca's 11 Steps to Buying a Home," and they made YouTube videos and Audio Recordings for the Final Project. The kids learned about mortgages, down payments, PITI - Principal, Interest, Taxes and Insurance; and how to work with real estate agents and brokers. In addition, students learned ...
